EAL & Multilingualism

At our school, we offer a unique English program, approved by the Ministry of Education in November 2021. This program focuses on improving students' language skills, comprehension, and critical thinking through teamwork and the development of essential 21st-century skills. We prioritize preparing our students for future challenges, knowing that mastering English is a key tool for global communication and cultural exchange. That’s why we enhance learning opportunities through connections with other ISP schools around the world.

We’ve also partnered with Cambridge University Press, offering teacher training, and the British Council Chile, providing advanced English courses for our high-achieving students.

In their junior year, we prepare students for the FCE exam, administered by the University of Cambridge, giving them a competitive edge when applying to universities, both in Chile and internationally.

Additionally, we participate in events hosted by the English-Speaking Union, which brings together bilingual schools for activities that help students strengthen their English skills.

Learning a new language isn’t just about grammar or vocabulary—it’s about connecting with different cultures. To make this happen, our team of teachers and the English Department work closely together. We’re also lucky to have Raisa Kosar, a native English speaker, supporting Early Years and Primary School as our EAL Learning Assistant, helping our students acquire English as their second language. Starting this semester, we’ll also welcome Li Liu, who will provide support to our multilingualism program, especially for the many Chinese students joining us, helping them navigate both Spanish and English. She also assists with some parent interviews.

To celebrate our students’ diverse backgrounds, we’re working on a project where one of our alumni and a group of students will share their experiences of preserving their Chinese culture while learning a second and third language. This project, “Across the Oceans,” has been shared with students from the Chinese community at ISP’s Straits International School.
